Ramirez signed looking for karaoke pals to audition last year when the Philadelphia stop was announced and posted a note about it on Facebook. Soon, his karaoke friends signed up as well, and Ramirez will be joined at the audition by Prices Lanes karaoke host Steven Beck of Wilmington.
I just love it. Beck has been hosting karaoke at the bowling alley for a little more than a year and also presides over the karaoke nights at a pair of Smyrna bars: For this part, Beck leans toward classic looking for karaoke pals, singing songs like Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Looking for karaoke pals on Me" on his karaoke nights, which usually end with him singing the much-recorded song "Goodnight, Sweetheart" doo-wop style.
Like Ramirez, Beck has no professional singing background, but is hopeful about his own stab at stardom.
Everyone else tells me I'm good enough," he says, allowing himself to wonder about what it would be like to sing in front of Levine, Shelton, Shakira and Usher under the bright lights of "The Voice" set.
